The Portsmouth Brewery holds a special place in our hearts here in the Beverage Lab, as it is one of 3 places in the Seacoast that brew’s it’s own beer. Located in the heart of Downtown, and not to be passed without looking up at the golden mug, the Brewery should be near the top of your to-do list when visiting Portsmouth.
To those well versed in their New England Beer History, here’s something you may not know. In 1986,The founder of the Portsmouth Brewery, Peter Egleston opened the Northampton Brewery in Northampton, MA with his sister where he served as head brewer until 1991. How’s that for family ties? Peter also owns the Smuttynose Brewery, who’s beers can be found flowing through the taps at the Portsmouth Brewery.
