Magic Hat Fall Variety Pak
I held off a couple weeks on this post due to the whole “Seasonal Beer” argument. Since fall is approaching it seems fitting to announce that Magic Hat has released it’s first Fall Participation Variety Pak.
Hex – a malty amber ale with hints of toffee and caramel and a slightly smoky finish.
The label alone puts you in the mood for Halloween. It’s that classic funky artwork that Magic Hat continues to bring to its labels, and the beer is nice too.
Hi.P.A. – begins and ends with big, bountiful bites of hops, hops and more hops while maintaining the barest hint of a malty middle in the mouth.
One of my favorites in the pack, if not my favorite beer from Magic Hat. Hi.P.A. is a great IPA and always a treat when I can find it in the area.
Participation Winner: Hocus Pocus – a light, crisp ale, whose malty sweetness finishes tart and crisp and is best appreciated with a wedge of orange. When the vote was being held for what beer to include in the pack, nearly 8,000 votes had been cast and the inscrutably refreshing Hocus Pocus® came out the victor. Starting August 1st, Hocus Pocus – Magic Hat’s first-ever democratically elected beer – will be available for the first time since 2008.
This was a cool one to try. While nothing stood out to make it my favorite from Magic Hat, it seemed like a great beer for those a little too shy to get into anything crazy in craft beer. I guess you could say this is a good transition beer into craft beer.
Side note, if you haven’t had the chance to visit Magic Hat you need to make a trip up. This is one of the cooler breweries I have been to. I always stop into the tasting room when I visit Burlington, which is becoming a brewery destination in its own right.
Go grab the Variety Pack and let mek now what you think.
