Beer Drinker Profile – @TWBDrapeau
It’s time once again to spotlight the beer drinkers I chat with and want to know a little more about. If you would like to be highlighted, email me at SeacoastBeverageLab@gmail.com.
After a solid year of tweeting back and forth I finally met Chris in person a couple weeks ago and have had a couple beers with since. It’s only fitting to have him share some information about himself to you.
First things first
Name: Chris Drapeau
Where do you hail from?
Born and raised in Littleton NH, Currently in Portsmouth NH
Top 3 favorite beers
This is a tough one and I’m sure my top beers are always changing but:
- Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale
- Brouwerij Bockor N.V. Cuvée des Jacobins
- Green Flash Imperial IPA
Top 3 most wanted beers
I don’t really have a top 3 wanted. I want ANYTHING I’ve never had before. I DO really get fired up when I see awesome collaboration brews I can’t get my hands on.
Favorite Beer experience (aka Exbeerience)
I just love experiencing new brews in different parts of the world while on tour. Many fans of my band will ask me “you’re the beer guy…right”? Heavy metal fans like they’re beers and luckily many of them like craft beers so they point me in the direction of the best in the area!
3 Favorite Beer Blogs/Sites (Don’t include Seacoast Beverage Lab even though you definitely want to)
- 2beerguys.com is super informative and run by some really awesome people
- beeradvocate.com is a must and my go to usually
- alesfromthecrypt.net is a clever and informative site
Do you use any Beer App?
Untappd (link to profile). I use Untappd (or as I like to call it Beerbook) like it’s my job. What a great app for beer fans to connect with other beer fans and breweries…and of course keep track of the brews you’ve had.
Favorite Food/Beer Pairing
Right now its sours with anything made with fresh berries (especially raspberries) but I will always love the hoppy and spicy combo.
Are you a homebrewer? If yes, what’s your favorite creation
I’m not a homebrewer just yet. I just need more space and more time. I’m so impressed and inspired by artisan home brewing, Just seeing what people are creating in their homes with an open mind is just amazing to me…and it has come so far over the years. We’ve got some fans in Ottawa Canada who come out to every Montreal show we play and they bring us some of the most amazing home brews ever.
Even with all of the awesome places here in Portsmouth; I have to cross the river into Kittery Maine to reach my bar of choice. The Black Birch has the most elaborate and intriguing tap list on the New England seacoast in my opinion. Benjamin Lord and Gavin Beaudry not only know their beers, but provide an eclectic food menu that can easily be paired with anything they have on draught. There’s a beer for everyone at the Birch. If you enjoy craft beers, classic vinyl, and sexy candlelight, then come post up at the bar with me and my better half every Wednesday evening.
What do you consider a current beer trend?
Everyone is geeking on sours right now from what I’ve seen. Including me.
The Obvious Questions
What famous person (living or dead) would you want to have a beer with and why?
Ernest Hemmingway of all people. He once said “Write drunk, edit sober” I sometimes embrace that approach to the creative process.
If you could be on any reality TV show, what would it be and why?
It would be a reality TV show where I just go around cancelling reality TV shows one by one. I’d just bust on to the location of the show and start chuckin’ books at people. There’s so much more to life than the picture box.
What would the world be like without beer?
Without beer after already having it? Or as if we had never had it at all? Either way it would be a mess and I’d rather not think about it!
