Mott’s Last Stand
Thursday afternoon was the final working day for Tod Mott at the Portsmouth Brewery. Tyler Jones, assistant to Tod for the past 4 years will be taking the reigns as Head Brewer. Mott said he plans to open a brewery in Southern Maine and while he doesn't have a spot picked yet, he and his wife have a name picked. Once the name is incorporated and a domain name is reserved he will let everyone know. As for Mott's last beer brewed at the brewery, it will be known as “Mott's Last Stand“, which will be a version of his previous “Cluster's Last Stand”, a beer brewed with Stone Brewing Co. brewmaster Mitch Steele.
To celebrate the passing of the torch a huge crowd gathered at the brewery at 4pm to listen to some words from owner Peter Egelston, Tod and Tyler. It was great to see the support from the community.
I moved to Portsmouth 4 years ago, and it's been great to learn about craft beer through the beers Tod created. I wouldn't have a blog if it wasn't for the Portsmouth Brewery and I can't wait to see Tyler in his new position.
Congratulations Tyler! Tod, thanks for showing me beer is more than macro, and I look forward to your next step.
