What in Tarnation is John Kimmich brewing with Tod Mott?

John Kimmich of the beloved Alchemist Brewery in Waterbury, VT came down to Portsmouth Wednesday to brew a collaboration beer with Tod at the brewery. The collaboration is for the 20th annual VT Brewers Fest (July 20-21) and will be called Tarnation, a really dark, insanely hoppy stout. To try to picture what it will be like, combine the magical Heady Topper with the smooth wonder that is Portsmouth Brewery’s Milk Stout. That’s as close as you will get to it without actually trying it. On a side note, to top the day off they put on a log of 2010 Kate the Great at the bar! What a day.

On top of this lovely creation, there will be as many as 15 other collaboration beers from the brewers in VT, including a 3.5% IPA from Alchemist and Hill Farmstead. Along with this collaborations the brewers will be bringing an assortment of their other beers. Expect to see Wild Thang make an appearance at the Portsmouth Brewery tent, big fan of that beer.

Looking forward to try Tarnation and the other collaborations at the festival? I have good news and bad news. Good news is you can get a ticket to the Friday session and will be one of the first to try it! Bad news…both Saturday sessions are SOLD OUT :(. You can catch me at the Saturday morning session.
