Recap: Dust Settles After Kate Day

It’s tough to recoup from a full day of beer blogging. I knew going into it it would be both fun and time consuming but didn’t think it would be as exhausting. Kate Day 2011 has come and gone and I appreciate being asked to live blog it and I hope I get the chance to do it again. That said I wanted to recap a couple of things I did during Portsmouth Beer Week leading up to Kate Day.

There I am. Throwing up the double thumbs. Classy.

Saturday was the big pub crawl put on by Smuttynose and it kicked off at Coat of Arms where they tapped 3 casks of Smuttynoses brews. Big A, Finestkind and Imperial Stout. I chose the Finestkind and with that, the crawl was on. There were more than 100 people on the crawl, way more than expected, so we split up and took the town over in two groups. Our group went to RiRa, Press Room, Riverhouse, Pocos and Blue Mermaid. After we finished the crawl we finished off with a bite to eat at the Brewery and called it a relatively early night.

The day after was kind of my main event of Portsmouth Beer week. I had set up a meetup and a private tour at Redhook along with Sean from the 2BeerGuys. I think we had about 10-15 people show up including some twitter friends turned into real friends Lindsey, Nick and Doreen. It’s up there as one of the better brew tours I have taken. The tour was led by a brewer who took us around every nook and cranny that makes Redhook tick, it was awesome. The tour ended in a tasting room and I got a chance to pull my own pint. I can’t believe it took me this long to pull my own beer but regardless it was empowering. Thanks to everyone that showed up for it. I hope we can do it again sometime.

What’s next? I have no idea. I have no events planned or events I am going to. I plan on just being spontanious with it and tasting new beers. What have you all been up to lately? Thanks again for everyone who followed along on Kate Day.

Cheers,
B
