Beer + Pie = Love
No one has ever asked me this question but if asked whether I like Cake or Pie I find myself leaning toward the way of the Pie. I love pie. Top pie is Strawberry Rhubarb with Chocolate Cream a close second. I am not, however, a fan of pot pies for some reason. This can include your chicken/turkey, cottage or shepards pie. For some reason I can’t stomach a hot mushy mess. Nevertheless, the Portsmouth Brewery is going the way of the Pie on January 24th for their first annual Pie and Beer Social! Beer and pie together at last! There will be 4 pies prepared by Chef Todd paired with 4 beers crafted by Head Brewer Tod. Just a couple of Tod(d)s getting together to make a great event at the brewery.
First pairing: Fatayer, a Lebanese Spinach Pie, paired with “Wild Thang,” a wild rice ale.
Second pairing: A traditional British Raised Pork Pie, paired with Winter Rye.
Third pairing: Cherry and Burnt Sugar Tart, paired with “Maude,” a sour, Flemish-style Red Ale.
Fourth pairing: Chocolate-Espresso Pie, paired with Milk Stout, especially infused with a cold extraction coffee extract.
