Blue Mermaid Restaurant Week Lunch
What a great day in Portsmouth yesterday. Light on the tourists and great weather. To top it all off my mom was in town to visit her baby boy. I was tasked with picking the lunch spot so I hopped on the Restaurant Week website and picked the best looking lunch menu. I picked the Blue Mermaid, which looked best lunch menu and was a place I had never taken my mom. We were pleased.
At noon the downstairs was full so we were the first ones to occupy the upstairs. The menu as I said looked great and was the only menu to offer a free drink which was as you can imagine, much appreciated! We started out with drinks, me and my Longtrail Hibernator and my mom got a Tini Bikini drink, which were both good. We both got the Pumpkin Bisque which required no extra seasoning. This was a really good soup for a cold day. The main course for me was the Steak Sandwich which to my initial disappointment was open faced but they made up for it with the taste. The blue cheese dressing on the steak was awesome. The Brazilian potato salad was refreshing to go along with the dish. My mom got the Mahi Mahi and couscous (the food so nice they named it twice) and liked it as well. To wrap lunch up I got the Cranberry Semifreddo Torta and my mom got the Fried Blue Mountain Chocolate Rangoons, excellent.
Everything was the perfect portion and the service was as always, friendly. The rest of the day was spent walking around town shopping and I actually got a chance to see the Frank Jones Exhibit that’s been going on in town at the Portsmouth Athenaeum. If you have a chance this month before the exhibit ends you should check it out. It’s packed with artifacts from one of US’s great brewers.
As I walked out I noticed the Blue Mermaid is hosting a Sebago Brewing Company Beer Dinner next Wednesday. Here is a link to the flyer. For me it is a little out of my price range, but I hope I can speak to someone who does go and can get the scoop from them. Looks like some great beer/food pairings!
